Ashes to make a reef in Dorset

Solose Stone v1

Fantastic! A project off the Dorset coast called Wreck to Reef is planning to make a reef from Solace Stones concrete structures that will incorporate peoples cremated ashes.

The artificial reef which recently received the go ahead from the council will also feature at least one sunken naval ship.

The Solace Stones – will be metre-high, pyramid shaped, they will have holes bored in them to shelter lobsters and attract marine wildlife.

There will be a memorial plaque on each and people will be able to conduct a ceremony from a neighbouring boat. And if you are feeling brave you can dive down and have a look!

The scheme is hoping to be in operation sometime soon and we will be keeping a careful eye on this great idea and informing you of progress. In the meantime if you want visit the organisation running it – Wreck to Reef follow this link Wreck Diving Reef.
