Turtle Water Urn
The Turtle Water Urn is a 100% biodegradable water urn that allows you to create a unique, meaningful ceremony. Crafted by hand by artisans in Mexico from recycled paper using non-toxic glues. These unique urns are fabulous.
Turtle water urns float for a short while before sinking. The time that the turtle takes to sink will depend on the weight of remains inside and local water conditions. The more ashes there are and the more turbulent the water the quicker the urn will sink.
Once the turtle sinks, it will biodegrade naturally over time. They are suitable for deeper water.
The turtles are available in two sizes.
- An adult size that will accommodate a full set of ashes – 3.3 Litres (202 cubic inches), 50cm x 46cm x 14cm ( 23W” x 18L” x 5.5H”)
- a mini turtle that will accommodate up to two or three tablespoons of cremated remains – 0.08 Litres (5 cubic inches), 23cm x 18cm 6cm (9W” x 7L” x 2.5H”)
The mini turtles are available in Natural and Newsprint, while the adult size is only available in Natural. The turtles are handmade, as such the size, shape and color of each may vary. Newsprint turtles will vary considerably in appearance and will contain legible newspaper print.
The skilled artisans producing these beautiful turtles are paid a fair wage in local workshop environments. The purchase of a turtle will contribute to the preservation of a traditional local art form.
Holding a Ashes Water Ceremony
Water burials are a very dignified way to conduct a #4thceremony – you can cast petals, put last words on our promises notelets. While the simple water urn floats, you will have enough time to say some final words, prayers or thoughts. Many clients find that the simple presence of a body of water after the ceremony can help them to remember that person.
We consider these urns more suitable for deeper water below the low tide line. Please see our page on general guidance for ceremonies or river or the sea.
Finally, it is sensible idea to record where you conducted the ceremony for future generations, if you are on a boat the skipper will be able to tell you your eastings and northings.
