Bespoke Wooden Urns
Bespoke Wooden Urns that are Local – Sustainable – Handmade – Bespoke – Unique – brimming with Craftsmanship.
We have a passion for all the above and Simon our carpenter who makes our Dartmoor range of Wooden Urns covers all these bases and more.
Simon has been a woodworker for 25 years, based down here with us in Dartmoor he has a small workshop tucked away next to Yarner Natural Wildlife Reserve. He has lived in this neck of the woods for almost all his life and tells me there is no where else in the world he would rather be.
He has been making urns for us for five years and I can honestly say all we have had is praise.
I envy people with skill like his, the most I do is put up a shelf (badly). The ability to make wood do exactly what you see in your mind is a true skill. Patience, precision and attention to detail in everything he makes means that his urns are simply stunning. We had a customer who wanted something bespoke to fit into an antique bookcase, so Simon made it, we sent it, and it slotted straight right in, as though it had been there all along. That takes real skill. And we had one very happy customer!
The wood is locally sourced where possible. In fact the Yarner Natural Burial Urn (named after where it is made) has no metal parts and is joined with lightly glued dowling making it highly suitable for most green burial grounds.
The Dartmoor Range comes in standard (adult), keepsake (token or infant) and Companion (double adult), the Companion urns have a removable partition so that you can choose to be join or separate the ashes…..
His other passion is Bees, with ten hives and a lot of bees. Which allows us the option to have the urns finished in natural beeswax, this photo was taken in front of his hives. The beeswax comes from these bees.
He also make our natural beeswax floating candles that are ideal for any ashes water ceremony.
So if imports from India or China are not your cup of tea and you like knowing where your urn comes from then I would suggest his urns might well be perfect for your loved one.
MADE IN DEVON
We are incredibly lucky to live in one of the most beautiful counties in England. I know we’re biased but with two amazing coastlines (North & South Hams), two fantastic moors (Dartmoor & Exmoor), and so much gorgeous flora and fauna can you blame us? Oh and we know how to eat scones properly – cream first!
We are also blessed with an array of talented makers: Artists; Carpenters; Ceramicists; Glassmakers; Jewellers; Potters; Stonemasons; Wood Pyrographers….these fabulous folk are passionate about creating a unique memorial piece for you to treasure. We only work with people who meet two criteria – they must be amazing at what they do, AND they must understand the significance of what they are creating for you and your loved ones. And these folk really care and understand. They often talk about ‘the honour’ of creating memorial pieces.
