Trent Bridge cricket ground’s ash scattering policy

Scattering Ashes at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground

Good news for cricket lovers and families seeking a deeply personal farewell: Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club allows ashes to be scattered at Trent Bridge.

For many, a cricket ground is far more than a sporting venue. It’s a place of routine, memory, loyalty and joy — and that emotional connection is increasingly reflected in where people choose to scatter ashes.

How It Works in Practice

Naturally, the club has to work around the cricket season and the many events hosted at the ground throughout the year. That said, the approach is refreshingly accommodating.

  • Out of season, Sundays are particularly popular, as there are usually no fixtures or events taking place

  • Saturdays can also work well, although weddings, lunches or corporate events are more likely

  • Where functions are scheduled, arrangements are made so that ash scattering does not overlap with celebrations

The emphasis is on discretion and respect — both for the family involved and for others using the ground.

Cost and Permissions

There is no charge for making this request, which sets Trent Bridge apart from many private venues.

Families are simply asked to make contact in advance so timing and access can be agreed.

A Growing Trend in Sporting Memorials

Allowing ashes to be scattered at sporting venues reflects a broader shift in memorial choices. Increasingly, families are moving away from traditional settings and towards places that genuinely reflect a person’s life — football grounds, cricket pitches, race circuits and riverside clubs among them.

For lifelong supporters, returning to a beloved ground can feel entirely fitting.

When planning ceremonies like this, families often opt for simple scattering tubes or biodegradable containers, helping the moment remain dignified, discreet and easy to manage — especially at public or private venues.

Hello, I am interested to be able to do a Scattering of Ashes ceremony (very small max 12 people) for my past relatives (Uncle &Aunty) who were avid Notts Cricket fans on either of the following dates with drink in bar afterwards.
Can you let me know if you can accommodate on these date please so we can decide? Sat 22.12.18 Sun 23.12.18 and Sat 29.12.18 Sun 30.12.18.
    Many thanks.
