Sports Fans of Doncaster now have a special place for their cremated ashes.
The Keepmoat stadium in Doncaster, home to Doncaster Rovers Doncaster Rugby League Club (the Dons), the Athletics Club and Doncaster Rovers Belles, is to have a memorial garden for Rovers fans and like to be able to scatter their ashes by the Club.
Many avid sports fans wish to have their final resting place as close to the hallowed turf as possible, and the club have taken steps to help their fans by trying to accommodate their last wishes.
The garden which is currently being built, is set to provide a tranquil (well perhaps not always!) spot for families of those life ling devotees come and reflect and feel a sense of place with their loved ones.
Additionally there will also be an opportunity to have loved ones’ names engraved on a plaque and placed in the garden on a commemorative wall – which emulates the bricks used at the football stadium.
Fans are not allowed to have their ashes scattered on the pitch for “Health and Safety reasons” – not quite sure what they are, but we could read into that “Because we don’t want to…”. Poor old Health and Safety – it gets blamed for everything!
Keepmoat chief executive David Blunt said: “We are very proud to be able to contribute to the community in a way which will bring a lot of joy to lifelong Doncaster Rovers fans – not forgetting fans of Doncaster Rugby League Club, the Athletics Club and Doncaster Rovers Belles.
“We have worked very hard to create a memorial garden which provides a tranquil environment for loved ones while emulating key features of the football club and stadium that sports fans have been loyal to throughout their lives.”
Anyway well done them for recognising the need and doing something about it. For more details contact the club directly.
