You can scatter ashes from the pier in Swanage, this is what the charity who maintain the pier have to say:

The scattering of ashes is permitted off Swanage Pier, however we ask that you contact us to talk about your requirements, including if you would like this to happen on a particular date and time. We may not be able to allow an ash scattering at peak times or when there are prescheduled event taking place, as this could interfere with others’ enjoyment of the pier.

If you would like to guarantee your groups privacy, hold a ceremony or host a large number of people please contact us to discuss your arrangements. We can allow access outside of general public opening hours, however, this needs to be prearranged with as much advanced notice as possible. We do not allow the fixing of accompanying permanent or indeed ephemeral markers to the pier, with advanced arrangement you can sponsor a plank in memory of your loved one, a plaque is fixed to the pier in recognition of this. We have a café on site, and would be happy to link you up with them if you wish to add a guests reception.

We are a charity, your generous donations and our enthusiastic volunteers allow us to maintain the pier for the enjoyment of visitors now and in the future. The pier costs over £200,000 a year to maintain, we receive no support from the local council or government. The regular admission fee of £1.50 applies for each guest during opening hours, this can be paid in advance to facilitate your day.

Location: Swanage Pier, Pier Approach, High Street, Swanage, BH19 2AP (registered charity number 290397)

Parking: First come, first served on site, with advanced notice we will be able to reserve parking for guests with limited mobility.

Accessibility: We have steps to the upper landing and lower landings on Swanage Pier, these have handrails.  We can offer support using a manual stepper.  There are accessible toilets in Marine Villas, and on the pier within the small stone building.

Refreshments: We have café Est 1859 on site, who offer a varied menu.  We can support you in organising a reservation with the café.

Capacity: Current restrictions in place due to Covid, however we have a large open expanse of pier and will discuss your access requirements.

Urn type: Biodegradable urns or scattering only.

Weather: The pier is exposed to the weather, we will work with the elements on the day to make a safe, memorable ceremony.  Please dress for the weather forecast.

    Do you know if cafe can cater for approx 20 adults and maybe 7 children. Possibly a finger buffet?
