Octavian – Dissolving Water Urn

Description

Octavian Dissolving Water Urn – 100% Biodegradable for Water or Land Burial

The Octavian Dissolving Water Urn is an elegant and environmentally friendly choice for a final farewell on water. Designed with smooth, graceful lines, it brings a sense of calm and dignity to any water burial ceremony.

Crafted from natural clay and a plant-based gelatin binder, the urn is completely biodegradable, ensuring it returns gently to nature without harming the environment.

A Graceful Ceremony on Water

This urn is designed to float briefly, giving loved ones the opportunity to share final words, cast petals, or light a floating candle before it gently sinks beneath the surface. Once submerged, it dissolves completely, releasing the ashes into the water in a peaceful and respectful way.

The ashes are placed in a biodegradable bag, which is then positioned inside the urn. This bag will also dissolve naturally, allowing the ashes to be released into the water without any environmental impact.

Float Time and Handling

The length of time the urn floats depends on:

• Ashes weight – heavier sets of ashes will reduce float time.

• Water conditions – calm water offers a gentler descent.

• Placement – placing the urn on the water allows for more float time, while dropping it in from height will cause it to sink straight away.

For example:

• 7lbs / 3.5kg ashes dropped from 6ft / 2m = immediate sinking.

• 5lbs / 2.5kg ashes placed on the water = floats for a few minutes before filling and submerging.

The urn is sturdy enough to be dropped from up to 25ft / 7m without breaking on the surface.

Religious and Environmental Suitability

• Contains no animal products, making it ideal for Hindu and Sikh water ceremonies.

• Supplied with glue to seal the lid if needed (a light moistening of the lid where it meets the base will also create a natural seal).

• Also suitable for land burial, where soil moisture will aid biodegradation.

Capacity & Dimensions

• Volume: 3 litres – suitable for the ashes of one adult.

• Height: 22cm

• Maximum Diameter: 19cm

Water Burial Guidance

Water burials are a serene and dignified way to say goodbye. You can enhance your ceremony by casting flowers, writing messages on Promises Notelets, or adding a natural floating candle. Many people find comfort in visiting a body of water afterwards as a way to remember their loved one.

We recommend using the Octavian Dissolving Water Urn in deeper water, below the low tide line. If on a boat, record the exact coordinates of the ceremony so future generations can revisit the location.

Water burials are a very dignified way to conduct a ashes ceremony – you can cast petals, put last words on our promises notelets. Or if appropriate you can use our natural floating biodegradable candle, made of beeswax and coconut shell to make a memorable occasion.

Record where you conducted the ceremony for future generations. If you are on a boat the skipper will be able to tell you your exact location. Recorded the location on our ceremony certificates

We consider these urns more suitable for deeper water below the low tide line. Please see our page on general guidance for ceremonies or river or the sea. Many people find that the simple presence of a body of water after the ceremony can help them to remember that person.

These items are generally in stock and can be shipped quickly. For Delivery information please click here.

They are also suitable for land burial as moisture in the soil will help the urn to biodegrade.
