The creator of the Dorito is to be memorialised using his famous invention


Arch West, creator of the Dorito corn chip, died on September 20, aged 97 and his family intend to inter dozens of crisps with his urn. Why they are doing it is unclear but they are and why not. I suppose it is fitting that the inventor of one of the world most famous snacks should have them with him, so fair play.

Burying item with the deceased is a well established tradition I suppose notably the ancient Egyptians, Chinese and Vikings all took offering with them to the afterlife. I don’t suppose that the general belief system is operating here, but perhaps it is a hang over of the symbolism? I will endeavour to find out more…
