The Living Urn
This new product over from the US is a wonderful addition to the choices for growing a plant with the ashes of a loved one.
The urn is designed to grow any sort of plants, flower tree or rose shrub. This is lovely way to remember someone by.
What is included:
- Patented BioUrn
- RootProtect – Proprietary Ash Agent (counters natural properties of cremated remains that can make growing difficult for a plant)
- Aged wood chip
- Beautiful Handmade Bamboo Planting urn case
When you receive your Living Urn® product, you will then need to transfer the ashes into the urn. Simply remove the Bio Urn from the bamboo case and transfer the cremated remains into it. Many families will perform this step on their own, but you can also ask your funeral home or cremation service provider to help with this step if you would like some support.
Place the top back onto the BioUrn and then store it, back in the bamboo case for safekeeping until you are ready to plant your tree, plant or flower. The Living Urn® has no expiration date and it will only biodegrade once it has been planted – you can store the cremated remains of your loved one in The Living Urn® Bio Urn for as long as you need to prior to planting.
The urns are made to a standard size which will hold up to a full set of adult ashes (24o Cu.In), however whilst we know what capacity they hold we don’t know the amount of ashes that will be put in them. This can also be used with a partial amount of ashes, many families will choose to have multiple memorials of a loved one – whether it’s more than one Living Urn® tree memorial, or using The Living Urn® with some of the ashes and then scattering some or all of the remaining ashes.

Planting a tree or plant with your loved ones ashes is a lovely way to symbolise rebirth and the tree will give you something to look at, reminisce and admire for years.
Other cremation urn products on the market may provide a tree seed with their bio urn, and the process to grow a tree from a seed can be complicated. Seed germination is a common challenge and failure rates with seeds can be high.
Once you have purchased The Living Urn® Planting system, all you need to do is purchase the tree, plant or flower of your choice. This is an important decision to make and makes this even more memorable and significant for your loved one.
The Living Urn® has significant advantages and our bio urn is the only one designed to be used with living trees, and not seeds. You can plant a young tree with your memory tree and grow a living memory with The Living Urn®.
