If you are carrying cremated remains / ashes on a KLM airline then you should be aware that this is there policy:
An urn can be taken as part of hand baggage, or as check-in baggage.
• The urn’s crematorium certificate must be brought and be shown during security check, so the urn will not be opened.
• If taken as part of hand baggage, the urn can measure max. 55 x 25 x 35 cm / 21.5 x 10 x 13.5 in (l x b x h).
• The urn cannot be made of metal (ie: x-rayable, so wood etc is OK)
• The urn must be sealed and wrapped in such a way that other passengers cannot identify it as an urn.
• To request transportation of an urn, please contact the KLM Customer Contact Centre (+44 20 7660 0293) , quoting your booking code, so they will put a note against your file for check-in use etc

I will be carrying as hand carry my husbands ashes. It is place on a tight wooden container. Will I pay a certain amount for this
Hi Maria
Okay – thanks
Kind regards
Richard
I am collecting ashes from Ecuador to bring back to South Africa, only flight carrier is KLM.
I do not know if there is a crematorium certificate, I also read of a special crematorium certificate required. What would I need before I return to South Africa?
I have never heard of a special certificate. The more evidence obviously the better should they query it.
Kind regards
Richard
I’m heading to China and my first plane is your airline. I would like to bring my husband’s part of ashes with me I know I need the death certificate and cremation certificate and he has to be in a urn that they can scan through and I need to contact by email before I am on board. Is this correct way or not? Many thanks.
Sorry I don’t know what means ‘Your Site URL’
This seems correct. I would advise speaking to the airline directly. Hope all goes well
what are the rules for scattering a small amount of my late husbands ashes in greece and do the same rules apply the islands as well
Dear Moira Ann
Quantity is not the issue and whilst there is no way to get permission I am aware people do this, but obviously this would be without permission and we can’t condone it.
I hope things go well.
Kind regards
Richard
im heading to canada and i would like to bring my husbands ashes with me i know i need the death certificate and cremation certificate and he has to be in a urn that they can scane through is this all i need to go into canada
Essentially Yes, I would inform the airline. They are usually absolutely fine.
Hello,
I will be traveling from Canada to Vilnius to bring my Mom’s ashes. Original flight is with Air-Canada and next is KLM. If I carry-on her remaining’s with Air-Canada and do the screening checkpoint there first am I expected to do any checkpoint with KLM as connecting flight?
Thank you
Hi Nadya
I would not anticipate any, but we a small company based in the UK so we are not the oracle so to speak.
Sure it will be fine
Regards
Richard
