Companion Garden Sundial: Devon Range

Companion Garden Sundial: Devon Range. Stunning and unique, these hand carved limestone boulders are special in every sense. The boulders are made of a distinct and beautiful limestone only found in South Devon.  Stoneycombe limestone has rich tones and veins running right through the stone.

How big is the companion garden sundial?

Each garden sundials is individual, no two boulders are the same in shape or size. Our stone mason hand-cuts each one to size with the top surface polished to a shine which reflects the light.

Size: They tend to be about two feet or (60cm+) in height and half a metre ‘square’ at the top.  They vary. We can cut them to size within reason.

Weight: They weigh around 300kg.

Sundial: octagonal made of brass and measure 10″ or 25cm

Armillary: 12″ / 30cm diameter and 18″ /45 cm high

Where do you put the ashes?

The are hand-cored so that you can place the urn inside the boulder. These boulder come with a double compartment handmade aluminium urn.

The stonemason is a skilled memorial artist and is able to carve an inscription if so desired (some additional cost).

The brass sundial seen on the main picture can be exchanged for a brass armillary sphere. Please see picture for options.

They are crafted in the UK and can’t be bought anywhere else.

How long does it take to create my companion garden sundial?

The Memorial Sundials are hand-made for you and as such the waiting time is around eight to twelve weeks. We will do our best to make a specific date if necessary but it will depend on the craftsmen’s schedules. If required we will supply two correctly sized urns free of charge. The sundial is fixed in place with a epoxy glue, these are shipped separately.

A beautiful and fitting memorial – very pleased with the result.
Took me a while to choose and to order, but Richard, Karen and Cheryl helped me with the process, showing me the optioons available and helping with the practicle details arround the inscription. The memorial is heavy, but the delivery driver used his pallet trolly to move it to the back of the house (despite heavy rain), For the final stage we used a lever to raise it enough to put rollers underneath (some old piping) and so were able to move it position in a flower bed.
So a big thank you to everyone involved!

Thanks Martin, I am really glad you are happy with it.
