The legal definition of cremation ashes

Finally we have a legal definition of Cremation ashes in the England and Wales, and whilst it seems surprising that nothing had been set down before, it is good that we have one now, which is set out in the new Cremation (England and Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2016.

“ashes” means all the material left in the cremator after a cremation following the removal of any metal, and any subsequent grinding or other process which is applied to the material.

Here is a link to the regulations themselves – Cremation (England and Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2016.

I actually think that a pretty good way of phrasing: defining it as the everything after from what it definitely isn’t (if that makes sense).
