Who I am and What I Do
Hello, I’m Kate a trained, qualified and insured independent celebrant in North East England. I create deeply personalised, inclusive ceremonies that truly capture the people being honoured. I focus on facilitating a spirit of togetherness in ceremony.
My Approach to Funeral and Memorial Ceremonies
I specialise in supporting people who want to plan for their own ceremony, whether that is for the funeral itself, a memorial ceremony or an ashes ceremony. About half of the funeral and memorial work I do is with self-planners and half is with families and friends, after the person has died. I also support people who want to hold ceremonies in places meaningful to them
I take time to gently get to know the person. This may be directly during their lifetime or through family and friends, after they have died.
I prioritise ensuring the beliefs of the person who died are reflected in the ceremony as they would want. I see this as my role, whether those beliefs are non-religious, religious or a mixture of both. As an independent celebrant, I am not bound by a religious or humanist philosophy.
What You Can Expect from an Ashes Ceremony with Me
That all depends on what you need. If we have already had the funeral or memorial service together, the ashes ceremony we plan is likely to continue in that same spirit. I will already know you as a family or friendship group.
However, if the ceremony for the ashes is the main gathering for the person, perhaps if an unattended cremation took place, then we will start from the beginning together.
I will get to know the person who died through your memories, stories and expressions. I will get to understand why the place chosen to bury or scatter ashes is special. I will look for ways for you to meaningfully participate in the ceremony, if and how you want.
